Chronicles Chapter Twenty

with various passages in the second book of Samuel; 1 Chronicles 20:1
with 2 Samuel 11:1 and 1 Chronicles 20:2
with 2 Samuel 12:30 and
the rest, to the end of it, with 2 Samuel 21:15.
What differences there are, are observed in the notes on those passages, which

1 Chronicles
20:1 It happened in
the spring of the year, at the time kings go out to battle, that Joab
led out the armed forces and ravaged the country of the people of Ammon, and
came and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem. And Joab defeated
Rabbah and overthrew it.

1And it cometh to pass, at
the time of the turn of the year -- at the time of the going out of the
messengers -- that Joab leadeth out the force of the host, and destroyeth the
land of the sons of Ammon, and cometh in and beseigeth Rabbah -- David is
abiding in Jerusalem -- and Joab smiteth Rabbah, and breaketh it down.

20:2 2 Then
David took their king’s crown from his head, and found it to weigh a talent of
gold, and there were precious stones in it. And it was set on David’s
head. Also he brought out the spoil of the city in great abundance.

of their king from off his head, and findeth it [in] weight a talent of gold,
and in it a precious stone, and it is on the head of David: and spoil of the
city he hath brought out very much,

20:3 3 And
he brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work[a] with saws,
with iron picks, and with axes. So David did to all the cities of the people of
Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

iron, and to axes; and thus doth David to all cities of the sons of Ammon, and
David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.
1 Chronicles 20:4 4 Now it happened afterward
that war broke out at Gezer with the Philistines, at which time Sibbechai the
Hushathite killed Sippai,[b] who was
one of the sons of the giant. And they were subdued.

after this, that there remaineth war in Gezer with the Philistines, then hath
Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Sippai, of the children of the giant, and they
are humbled.
1 Chronicles 20:5 5 Again there was war with
the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of Jair[c] killed
Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was
like a weaver’s beam.

5And there is again war with
the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair smiteth Lahmi, brother of Goliath the
Gittite, the wood of whose spear [is] like a beam of weavers.
1 Chronicles 20:6 6 Yet again there was war at
Gath, where there was a man of great stature, with twenty-four fingers
and toes, six on each hand and six on each foot; and he also was
born to the giant.

six, twenty and four, and also, he hath been born to the giant.
1 Chronicles 20:7 7 So when he defied Israel,
Jonathan the son of Shimea,[d] David’s
brother, killed him.
